
Mario Stylianou is a longtime Montgomery County resident, having lived in Bethesda for over two decades. He is a government contractor for Homeland Security who specializes in grant management. Mario focuses on budget tracking, expenditure/drawdown and obligation of funds, allowable costs, and statistical analysis for a billion dollar grant program jointly administered by two Departments.
Before being a contractor, Mario was a researcher in a trade association for alternative energy, an editor for a Greek-American outreach fellowship, a pro-bono consultant for Representative John Sarbanes (D-MD), a Program Coordinator for a leadership institute, and a statistical consultant and researcher for various University of Maryland research centers. He also does freelance website design and programming.
Having joined the YDreboot slate in running for the Finance position, Mario is capable of managing the organization’s funds and corporate/tax responsibilities. Moreover, he brings with him several ideas and initiatives for fundraising to increase MCYD’s financial strength and influence locally and beyond. He aims to increase revenues while still reducing or eliminating the need for membership fees. Mario also brings to the table several years of experience as an officer in various organizations.
Mario is ABD on his Ph.D. in the School of Public Affairs from American University; his main fields were Criminology and Policy Analysis with a minor specialization in Statistical Methodology while working on a dissertation on Cybersecurity. He has a Masters of Public Policy from the University of Maryland, College Park in International Security & Economics Policy and a focus in Management & Leadership. He also has a B.A. in Government and Politics with a Minor in Public Policy from UMCP.
